Betrothed Atonement

Scene – Miriam, 17, has been betrothed to Yaacov, the Sadducee’s son.

A dowry has been paid.  Yaacov is a good young man; the children grew up together and have a loving rapport.  But now, Yaacov must go away to Study or serve in military.  In 2 years, he will return to marry Miriam.  Meanwhile she will work in father’s shop and prepare, with her mother’s lessons, to be a wife.

Yaacov & Miriam lovingly part as he must go away.  Clearly they are in love and care deeply about each other also as good friends.  They talk about not having contact for two years, and how this will be so hard when they have been so close for so long.  They trust in each other’s faithfulness.  Their yearning is so intense for each other, especially as they part.  They steal a kiss.  It is restrained for propriety, but electric.
