Scene – Miriam is 12. Palm Sunday Dinner time. Father is disgusted that the city has made a parade for the
Nazarene. “Laying down of palms?!!!” He is outraged. Miriam loves her father;
she wants to please him, but is confused. She remains silent, even as she
reviews in her mind the miracle events she herself had seen. We like the father and empathize with his outrage and fear, his lonely fight
to stand fast to all that he sees as right, as his whole world is challenged and
shaken by this strange man from Nazareth. Miriam goes to him and hugs him in a
loving submissive way, to reassure him that he has support and reassurance. Her
mind is filled with ways to please her father. His sincere worship practices,
his devout life, the family’s comforting kosher ways.
