Miracle talk Atonement

Scene 3 Miriam 10 years old, at home with mother, Rivka, in the kitchen.

Miriam is chattering about her friend Orna and how they were playing dancing and twirling with Refaela. Mother is confused and corrects Miriam, “Refaela cannot dance. It is cruel to say so. You mustn’t tease her with things she cannot do!”

Miriam “But mother she can play now, the Nazarene healed her!”

The mother listens with suspicion as Miriam explains the many miracles she saw, including the feeding of the thousands. “I did not know all of this. Orna’s family saw the Nazarene? Refaela was healed? You saw all of this?”

Mother cautions Miriam not to tell anyone she saw these things. Mother will see what father thinks. The Nazarene is despised by the Sadducees, Pharisees and priests. We must not embrace him.
